Let me tell you, my biggest challenge was allowing myself to be seen 😅
I’ve always been shy. This introvert likes to observe rather than being the observed. 👀 It’s a comfortable place to be, so I settled and stayed there for years…until my time was up
When you’re so used to being in the shadows, stepping into the light too fast can burn 🧛
Fears and feelings of self-worth hitch into the light with you. Our inner critique disguising as imposter syndrome whispering things like: “Who am I to share my voice? Who cares? What difference would it make? I’ll make a fool out of myself. It’s better if I do nothing”
It can be a little overwhelming. But at the end of the day I remind myself that it’s not about me. I’m the messenger. I’m here to serve. As I connect to more people I realize my voice is echoing to those who need it.
Being you is the greatest gift you can give others
Your talents, your truth and your message.
It’s what connects and bounds us all together. Even though we’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea—I guarantee that you’ll serve those who need you and vice versa.
As Marie Forleo puts “The world needs that special something that only you have”. Really, inspiration comes from everywhere and everyone!
Next time you catch yourself shrinking or making yourself small either physically or in your mind, remember that YOU are whole just as you are. You deserve to be here as much as the person next to you. (Psst you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be heard. Just do whatever works for you)
Stay in your centre and own your space
Here are a 5 lessons I’ve learned in the past 12 days
Practice, practice, practice: The more I put myself out there, the easier it became. I find myself feeling more comfortable each time I’m in front of the camera. Granted I was doing instagram lives—which means I can’t rewind, re-record a dozen times and obsess over what I could’ve or should’ve done. It helped me focus on what matters and show up!
Progress over perfection: As a graphic designer I’m a sucker for details. There’s so many things I obsess over. I don’t have proper lighting, my audio system sucks, there is construction noises all around, there is no proper space at home etc. Attention to details is important but recognize when they are disguised excuses.
Just start: Learn and improve from there. Be gentle, be compassionate with yourself. Start with something simple that you enjoy. I started by sharing photos of myself to get comfortable.
Commit & stick to it: Set a goal, this challenge was a great exercise in putting myself out there while sharing my love for yoga. It created external accountability which meant I have to show up everyday and at a certain time (so I couldn’t slack!)
You’re all you need: You don’t need a fancy production team, be super high tech to share your passions. Start with what you’ve got. “Everything you need is already inside you. Everything you seek is within you. You are exactly where you need to be in this moment.”
I want to thank everyone who’s participated, commented and shared their feedback with me. It means the world to me and I truly appreciate you holding space for me.
What is keeping you from starting?
