How yoga helped me come back to myself

Happy international yoga day 🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🧘🏽‍♂️

Incredibly grateful for this practice that’s helped me come back to myself over and over again.

Yoga isn’t about the pose. It’s so much more than that but we often get wrapped up on what the pose “should be” or if we’re flexible enough or not.

But it’s really not about that

Yoga is about you

How you’re feeling, connecting + responding to your body while honouring what it needs at any given moment.

It’s a practice that happens on and off the mat. A way of being that trickles into micro moments throughout the day to soften and center

But that wasn’t always the case for me😅

My relationship to yoga has changed sooooo much. When I first found yoga I was looking for a workout I enjoyed. And then it became about accomplishing different poses.

I was constantly pushing and injuring myself 🙍🏻‍♀️

I didn’t realized how hard I was being. And it wasn’t only towards my body, it was similar in other areas in my life. From how I showed up at work, the weight of my own (and projected) expectations, the pressure to succeed and be perfect.

Of course all of that didn’t come from yoga but it was through @stralayoga training that made me realize “how you are in one place is how you are everywhere else”

So I started noticing “how” I was and let me tell you, there was a lot of guilt with those realizations.

But they also opened a door to a different way of being.

They lead me to completely recalibrating myself in the areas I was out of sync.

It meant coming back to the core of who I was.

And it’s a journey I’ll probably be on for the rest of my life as I expand 😌

And the best part it’s helped me connect to others on a much deeper level as well 🤍
