Stop Giving Your Power Away

Stop Giving Your Power Away

Jan 16, 2018

From an early age we’re taught to obey

To follow and not defy authority

To have dreams but they have to be realistic

To be innovative but stay within the lines

To work hard but not work smart

To be opinionated but not too loud

To be different but will be judged for being so…

And by the time we’re older we’re told that we’re not good enough, that we don’t have the experience, that we need to look a certain way or act a certain way to be happy. We are prescribed quick solutions to problems that were fed to us. We lack more than what we’re worth

When in fact we were born with a divine nature. Nobody teaches a baby to cry when they’re uncomfortable. If anything, kids are more in tuned with their bodies and emotions than many of us. We’ve grown up suppressing our desires and emotions. To always be positive and lock away all the bad. We’ve received so much external stimuli that we’ve disconnected with ourselves.

That’s not to say we should be lone wolves and not listen to anyone else.

On the contrary, take on all the advice, be hungry to learn and grow. Watch others, listen to their stories of strength, vulnerability, resilience, play etc. Make genuine connections, be inspired…but at the end of the day don’t lose the connection to yourself.

Know that you have what it takes to do what’s best for you. Sensitize to your needs and desires. It’s part of this ‘life curriculum’ to make mistakes, to fall in order to grow. Our potential is not measured by our failures nor successes. Our potential stems from our desire. If there’s a will, there is a way.

Don’t be afraid to seek support and guidance in the areas that’s not your strongest suit but don’t give your power away. Coaches, teachers, mentors, friends, parents we can all help to guide you. But find someone who empowers you and not strip your essence away. What works for one might not work for another. There’s a difference between doing what we’re told to do vs. doing something because it feels right to us. Believe in yourself, and trust your process.

Most importantly, know that honouring your truth is your greatest power and strength.
