First of all, we shouldn’t be chasing anything. Success, health, alignment, abundance… the very act of chasing tells our brain we don’t yet have it.
And the brain listens.
So it jumps straight into problem-solving: taking the lead, pushing, striving, anything to keep us safe, to obsess over the goal.
Did you know that from a neuroscience perspective, when we fixate on “getting there,” our brain’s reward prediction system lights up as if we’re always almost there, but not quite.
Dopamine floods in anticipation (just like opening a delivery package!) not in fulfillment. This creates a loop of seeking instead of settling into being. 🤯
In other words, chasing keeps the nervous system in a low-level state of survival, a “when I get there, I’ll finally relax” pattern that never really ends.
There was a time when I thought alignment meant getting it right. 🥹 If I could just find the perfect strategy, the ideal diet, the right routine, then everything would fall into place. I’d be healthy. Recognized for my gifts. Clear on my purpose. Finally stop second-guessing myself.
But what I learned was this: alignment isn’t a formula.
It’s not a destination — and it’s definitely not something to shrink ourselves into.
It’s not about following every step to a tee.
It’s about embodying the change we want to happen.
Letting the shift move through you, from how you think about yourself, to how you speak to yourself, to how you treat yourself.
I was attempting alignment through proven formulas, but never slowing down to feel or ground. It became mechanical. Soulless, even.
No amount of doing could replace the deeper being I was craving.
Perhaps that’s what drew me to Human Design in the first place.
It mirrored back my inherent nature from how I was meant to move, create, and rest in a way that actually felt sustainable.
And over the years, as I revisited the Gates, I realized there was always more to learn, to digest, to embody.
Each “aha” moment wasn’t a finish line but an invitation to actually slow down, breathe, and integrate.
Neuroscience calls this neuroplasticity, our brain’s ability to rewire itself through repetition and presence.
Every time we choose awareness over urgency, compassion over self-critique, we’re building new neural pathways that make it easier to stay connected, grounded, and open.
So that we can be in relationship with ourselves — rather than becoming a checklist of things to fix. 🥹That’s the heart of my work now.
Not theory, but lived experience. And holing space for your lived experience. Walking through one gate at a time, learning to hold both the shadow and the gift with curiosity and compassion. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about the destination.
It’s about remembering how to be, with yourself, your fears, your body, and your gifts.
I’ll also be hosting a free workshop on October 31st, exploring how our fears can become doorways into our gifts. More details here 🗓️
