Eating healthy and working out is not enough

Self-care starts from the inside

You can be doing ALL the right things. Eating the latest health foods, avoiding all the bad stuff, working out 60 minutes everyday.

But what happens when you neglect the rest of you?

It’s easy to overlook all of the things that contribute to our sense of nourishment and fulfillment. It’s not just the food we eat that affects our health, but all of the other factors present in our daily lives. Healthy relationships ♥️, a fulfilling career 📖, regular physical activity 🤾🏻‍♀️, and a spiritual awareness 🧘🏻‍♀️are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.

Not that what you eat is not important, but how you are goes to the top of the list

Can you remember being deeply in love? Everything is light and warm, colors are vivid, and life is full of joy. You’re high off your lover’s presence, sustained and exhilarated by the blissful connection. You float on air, and food becomes secondary.

Or think back to a time when you were involved in an exciting project. You believed in what you were doing whole-heartedly and felt confident and stimulated. Time stopped, and the outside world was muted – food was an afterthought.

Now recall a time you were depressed or experiencing low self-esteem – you were starving for primary food. No matter how much you ate, you never felt satisfied. The need for love, power, or mere acknowledgement drove the desire for excess food.

PRIMARY FOOD GOES BEYOND THE PLATE, NURTURING US ON A DEEPER LEVEL

Our well-being is a combination of everything. I know I sound repetitive! But it’s crucial you tune-in with yourself so you can identify which areas are out of balance, what you’re craving for, the things you are grateful and proud of.

I’ll leave you with a quote from one of my favourite books:

“The key is to remember that how our minds feel as we go about our day—how relaxed, happy, and fulfilled we are—gets translated into the physiology of the body.”
― Lissa Rankin, Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself

So, my friend, what are some primary foods that fuel you? What are some other areas you need to improve on?
